Patek Philippe........

So, lets start with the better of the best, the pinnacle, the undisputed champion of watchmaking. The Watch Guardian has to say: This years collection is extremely beautiful! With the Aquanaut Travel Time Advanced Research, Reference 5650G, they produced an absolute show stopper. Thank you very much, we´ve seen the highlight of Baselworld. We can all leave now! Well, that is not quite true, although the blue beauty shows a lot of assets within the whitegold case. Featurewise equipped with a second timezone, the real revolution takes place on a much tinier scale. The hairspring, again made out of silicone, now features a double end curve, thus improving accuracy to never before seen levels. Patek is speaking of a margin of -1 to +2 seconds deviation per day. Astounding, considering that a chronometer is granted - 4 to +6 seconds per day. Every intersted collector should run quickly to his trusted jeweller as the production is limited to only 500 pieces! Hurry up!

Was that all, you ask? No, of course not! The grandmaster from Geneva had many more treats for us. How about the "little" brother of the 5650, the 20 year Aquanaut anniversary model 5168G-001? With a diameter of 42mm it guides Patek Philippe to a whole new world of sizes. But, boy, does it suit the watch well! Also sporting a whitegold case, the jumbo Aquanaut shines with a wonderful blue dial, which graduates to black towards the bezel, and matching tropical bracelet (that´s how Patek calls its caoutchouk-like straps). Although not limited, quantities will be low.

Nobody knows his history as well as Patek Philippe! So strolling through his own Museum, Company President Thierry Stern can rely on an abundance of inspiration. This time it was condensed in to the new Calatrava (all totally round models carry this name) 5320G-001, a perpetual calendar. The creme coloured dial, together with a detailed whitegold case gives it a distinct retro look.

Is Patek run by a bunch of chauvinistic males, you ask? Aren´t there any ladies models at all? Of course there are! The Design departement of Patek Philippe is lead by a lady, who happens to be the wife of Thierry Stern, Sandrine. Judging by the fantastic output of the last few years, this definitely is a very good idea, indeed! Voilà, here are The Watch Guardians favourite ladies watches of this years Patek Philippe lineup: Sporty, yet elegant, the ladies steel Nautilus now comes with an automatic movement. Yes, you might have seen this before, but not without diamonds. Then there is a massively diamond loaded Aquanaut in rosegold. Amazing dial! Equally amazing is the dial on the ladies annual calendar in whitegold. Checkered very subtly, the effect is stunning, providing the light hits it from the right angle. Enjoy!
